Travel

1-day rides or multi-day tours take you to the most iconic, brag-worthy destinations in southern Spain. All rides start from Granada. Multi-day tours include a visit to the Alhambra Palace, a ride up the highest cyclable climb in Europe (weather permitting), and a separate food itinerary to show off the region’s distinct agricultural abundance.

Supplement your Spanish vacation with a three or five-day tour or go all in with the week-long one. The 7-day tour will take you further afield to Ronda, one of the famous “Pueblos Blancos” and home to the annual Ronda 101, a 101km mountain bike and running race that’s beautifully organized by the local military base.

Cenes to Capileira via Europe’s Highest Cyclable Climb

Veleta is a regular entry on lists of superlative bike climbs like “world’s highest/toughest/hardest” and, at 3,394 m (11,135 ft), Veleta more than deserves the distinctions but Veleta has a few things that the others don’t, which makes it even more alluring.

The Moor’s Last Look

This ride traces the retreat of Boabdil, the last Moorish king of Granada, after he relinquished the kingdom to the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabel, in 1492. I took a few creative liberties to both lengthen the ride and add more riding off-road. I confess that there’s more asphalt involved than I’d like but we’re still sorting out how to navigate off-road the necklace of towns that circle the base of the Sierra Nevadas on the west side. We’ll publish updates once we get that sorted.
